Shayna graduated from Augustana College in December 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Psychology. She is currently pursuing her MSW at Aurora University. Prior to joining the Safe Passage team, her experience included working as a legal assistant, volunteering as a hotline advocate, and event planning and community outreach with student organizations during college.
After learning more about Safe Passage’s goals of aiding survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault from every walk of life, Shayna wanted to take part in this effort. She started as an intern in Safe Passage’s Partner Abuse Intervention Program (PAIP). Quickly thereafter, she joined the team full-time as a Prevention Specialist and PAIP Co-Facilitator. Shayna is passionate about educating students and the community on topics designed to prevent and mitigate DV/SA. She firmly believes in creating a safe space for survivors to come forward to seek the resources and support they need. Her favorite topics to present on are consent, healthy relationships, and combatting myths that perpetuate victim-blaming.
