Our agency has helped survivor’s in the community for 40+ years. Our grassroots beginning started with community members bringing survivors into their homes. This was before the anti-violence movement was in full force, and before there was much legal protection for survivors. Interpersonal violence was something that was regarded as a private matter in families.
We have blossomed into the organization that we are today. When most people think of Safe Passage, they think of our emergency shelter. But we do so much more. We offer survivors of both domestic and sexual violence services free of charge including counseling, case management, legal advocacy, and medical advocacy. Our prevention team goes into the schools and community business to try to stop violence before it happens — and give children the tools they need to report violence. And we also work with people who use violence through our partner abuse intervention program.
We do all of this without ever asking a survivor to pay a dime. Our services are funded entirely by grants and our community. And we are grateful for the community that we serve!
We are getting so excited for the tenth annual Give DeKalb County, which is Thursday, May 4. Mail-in contributions opened up on April 20 and will continue until May 4 — any mail donations that are postmarked between these dates will be accepted.
Complete the form (linked below) indicating the organization(s) (don’t forget to include Safe Passage!), and donation amount(s), then write a single check for the total amount payable to “DCCF.” Your check and donation form can be mailed to the DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore, IL 60178.
If you live locally and prefer to deliver your donation personally rather than use the mail, bring your mail-in donation form and check to the DeKalb County Community Foundation between April 20 and May 4. There is a secure exterior dropbox to the right of the main entrance and the office hours are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
On May 4, donors can visit the Community Foundation (475 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178) to drop off their donation form, enjoy light refreshments, and see the giving day results displayed in the Freight Room (8am-1pm).
